We encourage all members and guests of the University to  immediately contact the department with their concerns regarding public safety related issues. 

How

When

Crime In Progress:

1. Dial the appropriate extension or number from any campus white phone, office phone, or emergency call box; this will connect you with the Police Communications Center.

2. Provide the Police Dispatcher with as much of the following information as possible:

• Exact location of the crime being committed.
• The type of crime being committed.
• How many people are involved?
• Description of people or vehicles involved.
• Description of possible injuries.
• Direction of travel if the suspect(s) has fled the scene.

3. Do not hang up the telephone; remain on the line until the dispatcher terminates the conversation.

4. If safe to do, remain at the scene and identify yourself to the officer as person who reported the crime.

5. Do not attempt to apprehend the suspect by yourself.

Medical Emergencies:

1. Dial the appropriate extension or number from any campus white phone, office phone, or emergency call box;  this will connect you with the Police Communications Center.

2. Provide the Police Dispatcher with the following information:

• The exact location of the victim.
• The nature of the victim's illness or injury.

3. Do not hang up the telephone; the Dispatcher may need additional information.

4. If safe to do, remain with the victim and identify yourself to the officer as person who reported emergency.

Criminal Incidents:

If you think that you have been a victim of a crime that is not in progress:

1. You may walk into the University Police Department or dial the appropriate extension from any white phone, office phone or emergency call box to report the crime as soon as possible.

2. If you are not interested in having the University Police Department document or investigate the crime, it is still important that you report the incident;  your report could prevent other individuals from becoming victims.

Sexual Assaults:

The University Police Department realizes that the reporting of a rape or sexual assault is a personal one.  We do, however, encourage the immediate reporting of these crimes.  A rape or sexual assault is a serious crime and the reporting of the incident may prevent another unsuspecting individual from becoming a victim.

Police Dispatchers and Officers are trained to assist the victim or suspect of a rape or sexual assault throughout the entire reporting process, and will provide the victim with important "Victim Assistance" information.  Police Officers will work closely with the victim, should the victim decide to seek prosecution.

If both the victim and the suspect are enrolled students of the University, University disciplinary action may also be sought.  In this event, the accuser and the accused are entitled to have an advisor present during the disciplinary proceedings.  If found to be in violation of CSUEB Code of Student Conduct, the offender may be placed on probation, suspended or expelled, and/or be excluded from the campus.  The victim may request changes in academic and living arrangements, where such changes reasonably are available.

The University Intern Counseling Program will provide confidential on-campus counseling and support services to any student who has been the victim of a rape or sexual assault.  The Intern Counseling Program can be reached at (510) 885-3690 or extension 53690 from any campus phone.
