How to Graduate in 4 Years

See your major department for information on how to apply for graduation. Please see an advisor before the graduation deadlines. The UAC will not be able to provide you with GE evaluation after the graduation deadlines have passed.

How to Graduate in 4 Years
Advising After Applying for Graduation

Each year when the festivities of commencement approach us, those of you who are not graduating may wonder when your time will come to don the cap and gown. You are not alone! Many students who come to the UAC for advising want to know how to get a degree As Soon As Possible.

Graduating within a reasonable time frame is a reality, and the UAC has some important tips that can help you speed up the process of earning your degree.

  • Know Your Requirements! It is important to be aware of GE, major and other university graduation requirements. You don't want to take unnecessary classes or forget to complete a degree requirement.
  • Be Flexible! Classes may not always be offered at times that are convenient for you. It is important to make school a priority and rearrange your schedule whenever possible to take required courses.
  • Be Realistic. Taking more courses than you can handle will ultimately delay your graduation if you receive poor grades. Balance your classes and always consider the workload in terms of your extracurricular activities and other responsibilities.
  • Stay On Track. Talk to an advisor at the UAC and an advisor in your major department several times a year. Plan out your courses and keep track of your academic progress. Many courses are only offered once or twice a year, so advanced planning is a must!
  • Avoid Unnecessary "Red Tape". Remember to pay fees, add and drop classes by the required deadlines. The Class Schedule outlines all the important deadlines for each quarter. Check your own schedule each quarter by calling SAILOR's listline or check your records at "MYINFO" and correct any errors immediately! Pay close attention to all university paperwork. Failing to follow administrative procedures can delay your academic progress.

Advising After Applying for Graduation

If you need assistance or clarification regarding your major requirements, contact your major department. GE evaluation updates are not available through the University Advisement Center once you have submitted your candidacy for graduation and the graduation deadlines have passed. We recommend seeing a GE evaluator BEFORE applying for graduation to insure your requirements have been met. Once you have received you Bachelor's Degree Check Sheet, you can contact your Graduation Evaluator whose name and phone number will appear on your check sheet.
