Patrol Unit The University Police Department is a professionally trained police department established pursuant to Section 89560 of the Education Code to provide safety, security, and enforcement services for CSUEB and the surrounding community. The University Police Officers are sworn Police Officers as established by Section 830.2(d) of the California Penal Code, with the same responsibilities and enforcement powers as any other Peace Officer in the State of California. Our Officers are required to satisfy the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements, and attend a POST certified Police Academy to receive basic training as well as periodic POST refresher courses. California State University Police Officers patrol on foot, bicycle and in vehicles providing safety, security, and enforcement services. Officers respond to emergencies and disasters, investigate criminal, traffic, medical, and fire incidents, mediate complaints, arrest offenders, appear in court, facilitate use of traffic systems, preserve order at major events or assemblies, engage in community oriented policing and problem solving outreach, and safeguard the custody and disposal of found property and evidence Ride Along Program The "Ride Along" program is designed to provide our community with the opportunity for an exchange of ideas and views with employees of the University Police Department through the shared experience of public safety activities. We believe this opportunity can contribute to our mutual understanding of the public safety needs of the community. Application for a Ride Along may be initiated by completing the on-line form below or by contacting the University Police Department offices located at the Library Room 1063, or by calling (510) 885-3791. The nature of Police Department services is to respond to emergencies and involves potential risks. Therefore the University Police Department has established the following principles for ride along participants.
