ResNet - Blue Socket Information
All Residents are required to log into the ResNet
using the Blue Socket. The Blue Socket is a internet gateway that
does the
provides the following benefits for ResNet Users:
- A secure connection for ResNet users
- Allows Housing and the University to disconnect
user computers with virus or that are performing
other activities that are detrimental to the ResNet
Community
- Regulates bandwidth to manage the high volume needs
of Pioneer Heights

What do you need? All
users of the ResNet must have an active Horizon Account with the University
(NetID and Password).
Logging into Blue Socket
- Open your web browser
- When your homepage loads, you will be directed to a security
pop up, click YES
- A web page will load requesting your Horizon User ID and
Password. This is the same user ID and password you
use to access your Horizon
Email Account.
- You will then have full access to the Internet.
- When you are finished, just click logout on the small
window that appears when you log in. If you accidentally
close the small window,
type in "blueph" into the address bar, press enter,
and it should reappear.
Remember, you are responsible for adhering
to the "Acceptable
Use Policy"
. This includes everyone that you allow to access the ResNet
on your Horizon Account.
Blue Socket -Frequently Asked Questions
I haven't logged in yet, but I already have access to the www.csuhayward.edu
web page, why?
Accessing www.csuhayward.edu does not require you to login.
However, links within the site that point to the Internet will automatically
be redirected to the login page. Upon successful login, the previous
link that brought up the login page, will be displayed on the browser.
I can't connect to my ICQ or Net Messenger, why?
You must authenticate or login first by bringing up a web browser
before you can access ICQ or Net Messenger.
I can't Telnet, FTP, PING, run any sharing program or anything, why?
You must authenticate or login first.
Why do I keep getting "invalid username or password"?
Test your NetID and password by logging into your Horizon E-mail
account. If you can't login to your E-mail, refer to the online support
documentation located at:

Why do I still keep getting "invalid username or password" even
though I can access my Horizon E-mail account?
You may still be logged-in from another computer. If so, first
log out from that computer and try logging in again. If you continue
to get "invalid username or password" shutdown your computer,
wait for 5 minutes and turn it back on again. If this does not work,
call the Help Desk at 885-HELP(4357) for further instructions.
When I bring up my browser, I get a blank page. How do I get the login
screen?
Go to the following URL address:
http://blueph.csuhayward.edu and you should get a login prompt.
You can also point your browser to any Internet site and you will be
redirected to the login screen.
Do I have to login if I just need to read my Horizon E-mail?
No, but there may be links inside your E-mail that will bring
up the login page automatically in which case, you may need
to login to view the link.
When I bring up my web browser, why do I get "The page cannot
be displayed"?
Point your browser to http://blueph.csuhayward.edu and you
should get a login prompt.
If you still get "The page cannot be displayed", check to
make sure your network card has a cable to connected to the outlet and
a link light is on. If you still get the "The page cannot be displayed",
clear your browsers cache. If you continue to get this error call the
Help Desk at 885-HELP(4357).
I don't know my Horizon NetID and password?
From the NAG login page, click on the link that says: "Click here
to activate Horizon account". This will take you to the activation
page where you will obtain your NetID and password that you can use
to login to the Network Authentication Gateway. |
