Intercollegiate Sports
Division III Athletics 
Cal State East Bay is proud to be the only NCAA (National Collegiate
Athletic Association) Division III program in the CSU system. We sponsor
13 Intercollegiate sport programs.
The Pioneers hold dual membership in the NAIA (National Association
of Intercollegiate Athletics). The sports of baseball, softball, women's
swimming, women's volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and women's
water polo compete as NCAA Division III independents. Men's and women's
basketball, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's golf
compete in the NAIA affiliated, California Pacific Conference California
Pacific Conference.
Best Overall Season
During the 2003-2004 the Intercollegiate Athletic Program had the
best overall season in 19 years.
- Women’s Volleyball reached the NCAA West Regionals for the sixth
straight year and won 30 matches for the second consecutive season.
- Women’s Cross Country won the Cal Pac Conference.
- Men’s Cross Country finished second in the Cal Pac Conference.
- Men’s Basketball qualified for the NAIA Championships for the third
time in the last five years.
- Women’s Basketball finished 21-6 and set a school record with a
.778 winning percentage.
- Men’s Golf ranked 9th in the NAIA during the fall season.;
- Women’s Swimming finished sixth at the NAIA National Championships.;
- Baseball qualified for the NCAA III Regionals for the second time
in the past four years and finishing the 2004 campaign with a 29-13
record, their best showing since 1977.
- Women’s Softball qualified for NCAA post season play for the first
time in 12 years and finished the 2004 season with a 29-8-1 record.
- Women’s Water Polo finished fourth in the Division III Collegiate
Championships while winning a school record 18 matches.
The year brought individual and team honors and seven school records.
Seven student-athletes and the women’s water polo team were named to
Academic All America honors. For their athletic abilities, 12 student-athletes
were named to All America honors, 10 student-athletes were named to
All West honors and seven student-athletes were named to All Cal Pac
Conference honors.
